Good Earth Montessori was founded in July 1978 by a few parents who wanted to create an authentic Montessori program in the downtown area of Mesa, Arizona. The primary objective was to perpetuate a warm environment in which to stimulate intellectual growth of their children. The school was expressly designed to be a true "Children's House". In 1994/1995, substantial attendance growth required us to relocate from our original location on Robson to our current facility located at 1704 North Center Street. Through patience and a lot of sweat equity, the main building was remodeled, with a majority of the changes completed by late 1995. During the fall of 1998 and summer of 1999 the school experienced further expansion with the addition of two pre-manufactured buildings to serve as elementary classrooms. Included in this expansion project were additional trees and landscaping, a new underground sprinkler system, a new playground, and new playground equipment.

Horizons Schools provide one program of learning with everyone participating within that same program. The curriculum is progressive and is brought to the students when they are ready, despite the academic or age grouping. Our entire program of instruction is non-graded and ungraded. It is based upon initial skill evaluation, training in study skills, goal setting, and specialized forms of instruction leading to 100% skill mastery and independent learning. This program ensures skills are demonstrated, terms are clearly defined, and a full understanding of the overall concept and relationship to their life is displayed. By accepting only 100% skill mastery and allowing the time personally necessary to accomplish the task, the Quality Check Program at Scottsdale Horizons develops the child’s recognition of their true competence, and thus, their enthusiasm for life and learning.

Mountain School is a public charter school in Flagstaff, Arizona which covers grades pre-kindergarten through six. It is a school founded by parents, reflecting parents' concerns. When we began in 1980, our aim was to provide our own children with an alternative to the rigidity and to the crowding of public schools. Through the years we have evolved into a school committed to having children gain academic breadth while maintaining their inherent love of learning, a school where learning works in concert with children's senses of integrity and self-esteem. We have a school where children feel good about themselves - and about learning.

Our mission, vision, and goals are derived from John Dewey’s philosophical premise: “No man can be rightly taught unless he has a need.” While the premise has fitfully been expanded to include both genders, it surely does define the approach to education at Desert Rose Academy. Students are individually counseled and their career interests identified. Ultimately, students earn their traditional credits and prepare for AIMS standard skills in a work environment supported by truly remarkable individuals and small group instructors.
