The Equestrian Academy Charter School is designed to meet the needs of high school students with specific interests in both college academic preparation and also training in the equine industry. The academic program is a high standards college-readiness program requiring 4 years each of English and mathematics, 3 years each of science and history/civics, and 2 years of world language for all students. In addition, students would be required to have 3 credits in entrepreneurial business courses with real experiences and specific courses with real hands-on training in equestrian studies. A choice high school program that aims to serve 60 high school students in two centers divided into morning and afternoon sessions and two classrooms per center, 15 students per teacher/session. The Strong Foundations Charter School is designed to develop early literacy in all children, including those at risk for reading disabilities. The founders will incorporate Orton-Gillingham instruction and develop children's phonemic processing skills as needed in order to do that. The school would have a maximum enrollment of 105 students, grades K-4, but will open with a smaller number of students and grow to this size. The curriculum will be comprised of a full elementary school program, and the emphasis will be on increasing the percentage of students who reach grade-level or above competency in reading, writing, and math. The program will use research-based programs and differentiate instruction, areas of specialty for the founders. The school will offer all academic subjects, including computer skills. Strong Foundations proposes an individual plan for every student to develop areas of weakness and strength. Systematic and sequential instruction is the primary instructional approach, with frequent skill development monitoring to assure progress.
